We empower teen moms and adolescent girls with social life skills, leadership, economic entrepreneurship, parenting skills, and service linkages, helping them gain confidence and build their potential. Through EROHI’s Programs, over 1203 girls and teen mothers have strengthened life skills and decision-making, 70% of teen parents in Western Kenya have improved parenting practices hence supporting their children better, 15+ girls returned to school and linked to TVETs, and 56+ young parents accessed essential health, with 74+ households reached with kitchen garden farm inputs enabling them to enhance food security, nutrition and economic resilience. Overall we’ve fostered gender equality, shared responsibility, and resilient families demonstrating that community-driven solutions create lasting impact for children, young parents, and their communities.

Our Approach

In Kenya, nearly 15% of girls aged between 15 to 19 years become pregnant every year. Of these, at least 13,000 girls drop out of school with no hope for a future. They experience many challenges including stigma, mental health issues, isolation, lack of support and much more. Additionally, these challenges, if not addressed properly, affect the development, health, and long-term wellbeing of their children. Without timely intervention many of these young mothers are pushed deeper into poverty and vulnerability, limiting both their potential and that of the next generation. As a result, EROHI has devised a theory of change to help these young mothers thrive despite their circumstances.

1200+ Adolescent Mothers Reached

1,203+ adolescent mothers reached through social life skills, leadership, entrepreneurship, and parenting training. EROHI has provided parenting education, sexual and reproductive health education (SRHE), financial support, and nutrition guidance, enabling some mothers to return to school and strengthen family well-being. These have strengthened decision-making, confidence, and holistic development of young mothers and their children.

We have reached 74+ households with kitchen garden inputs, training families to grow fresh vegetables and nutritious crops at home. Kitchen gardening has improved household food security, daily access to nutritious foods, and reduced malnutrition in adolescent households. We have also linked adolescent girls to youth-friendly clinics and MOH services, increasing uptake of antenatal care, family planning, and other health services.
