Transforming the Lives of Adolescent Girls and Young Mothers in Kenya

EROHI empowers adolescent girls, teen mothers, and vulnerable families through mentorship, education support, health access, and economic empowerment programs. To date, we have reached over 1,200 adolescent mothers and helped them strengthen life skills, return to school, improve parenting practices, and build resilient futures. We work at the intersection of teenage pregnancy, poverty, gender inequality, & social injustice realities to create community-led solutions that unlock long-term opportunity for girls and their children.

The Sad Reality of Many Adolescent Mothers in Kenya

In Kenya, nearly 15% of girls aged between 15 to 19 years become pregnant every year. Of these, at least 13,000 girls drop out of school with no hope for a future. They experience many challenges including stigma, mental health issues, isolation, lack of support and much more. Additionally, these challenges, if not addressed properly, affect the development, health, and long-term wellbeing of their children…

Why It Matters

Early pregnancy interrupts education, limits opportunity, and alters the course of their future. This is because, when a girl becomes pregnant, she is far more likely to drop out of school and many never return. Without education, her economic options shrink, increasing the risk of long-term poverty and overdependence to the community. In rural communities where employment opportunities are already limited, this vulnerability deepens.
